Life of St. Julian
Julian, a young Dalmatian, lived under the emperor Antoninus Pius (138-161). Became a Christian, probably in the catacombs of Pola, Salona or Sirmium, trying to deepen his faith and spread it with courage.
Julian wanted to go to Rome, the tomb of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to ask God for a faith strong and safe. At Sora came across a patrol that, after a summary examination, they chained him and brought him in prison Vallefredda. The next day he was interrogated by the proconsul Flavian; him, impressed by the young age and how Eastern religions spread, the young man to be sentenced to prison for seven days without any food. After this period, however, reappeared before the proconsul with a pink face and will even more determined to bear witness to his faith.
Flavian, to lead to milder counsels, was sentenced to flogging, but to no avail, because it increased his stubbornness. Giuliano was sentenced all’aculeo (instrument of torture with which the prisoner had his limbs pulled in the opposite direction), and after a few rounds of sting the arms of the torturers is paralyzed. While replacing the Flavian troops torturers, news came that the temple of the goddess Serapis had collapsed and the statue of the goddess was shattered. The astonished onlookers attributed this event to the faith of St. Julian. The proconsul to put an end to this rumor, and to eliminate the stubbornness of the young man decided to sentence him to be beheaded. The sentence was carried out among the same ruins of the temple of the goddess. Before his death Julian invited those present not to worship the false and lying, but only God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and his son Jesus Christ died and rose for us.
After forgiving the proconsul and torturers were beheaded. At night, the brothers picked up the broken body of the martyr and led him into the catacombs of Sora.
